From A to B – flexible and fast through the WDC: The Weidmüller Distribution Center in Thuringia will revolutionise our logistics processes in Central Europe.
In May 2023, we celebrated the opening of the new building complex in the municipality of Hörselberg-Hainich. The new logistics centre had already started operation two months before, following a construction period stretching over two years.
The state-of-the-art new build is located about ten kilometres away from the Thüringische Weidmüller GmbH (TWG) site.
Without doubt: the commissioning and inauguration of the WDC was a real milestone for us. In total, we invested over 65 million euros in the construction of the logistics centre. This makes the Weidmüller Distribution Center the company’s largest single investment in its history.
The building complex is largely automated and provides end-to-end digitalised as well as flexibly networked delivery and customer service.
In designing the WDC, Weidmüller combined cutting-edge logistics technologies with sustainable building components. In addition to a partial roof greening, powerful photovoltaic systems and an energy-efficient heat pump were also integrated.
Overall, the logistics centre fits into our sustainable local-for-local strategy: at the Thuringia site, the WDC has established a central transshipment point for products manufactured by us in Central Europe. Shortened transport and delivery routes will lead to significant CO2 savings in the future. In addition, over 80 new jobs will be created on site.
